The Rolex Experiment

I am an avid watch collector I only purchase watches that I won’t feel bad if they are damaged ( I buy replicas ). I saw this site and thought it was interesting because I try to conceal what I wear but seeing and documenting peoples reactions sounds pretty cool.

Leopard

On Friday Oct. 26th I joined hundreds of others in a line at the local Apple store and purchased a copy of the new hotness OS X, version 10.5. I had a little trepidation about upgrading to this OS on day one due to some reviews I read on several of the popular websites complaining about a few minor here and there bugs. However, after using the OS now going on 3 days I have to say there is not a single thing I have to complain about.
First off I have a standard MacBook and it is much faster. The biggest improvement is when I put the computer to sleep and come back to it. It wakes up almost instantly and there is no hesitation with applications they all are responsive right away. So far I have to hand it to Apple they go this one right. I do have one minor complaint and that is I don’t see any of the core animation stuff that was hyped up during all the demos and so forth leading up to this launch. I suspect that development companies didn’t get their developments cycles lined up with Apples release time frame so the Leopard only applications are not ready yet. We’ll see these in the coming months. Verdict: spend the money do the upgrade it’ll be worth it.

Adventures in brewing part 1.

So I recently decided I would give home brewing a whirl I had once thought about this shortly after graduating college, but because of my work schedule with travel and the rigor of life in the fast lane as it where I didn’t think I could maintain the level of interest in the subject as would be required to produce good beers. I have to make a note here to say that home brewing is about the taste and the craft, not about saving money or creating a beer to get drunk on. I want to create beers that are an amalgam of the commercially available products that I like. The home brew process is somewhat time consuming but your reward is when you open that first bottle and taste the fruits of your labor. As of late my life is still busy but things have backed off enough and I have a brewing buddy as their called who is helping me with the process. The principle of beer is very simple: extract sugars from some grain based source, utilize yeast to consume the sugar and convert it to alcohol. This is the most basic of steps and in most if not all cases will take you from a pile of raw ingredients to a finished product that is drinkable. I purchased a kit from a local brew shop that contained everything I needed to create a batch of beer, and most on-line and local shops will sell similar kits that make the process very painless. I highly recommend investing in such a kit simply because it makes things easy. Where I hope to explore what this craft has to offer is in creating a recipe that is truly my own. I will be describing and relaying my recipes as I go down this road and hopefully if I discover something great I can share it.

10ft Male Alligator Discovered in Kansas City Missouri.

Kansas City Missouri, March 9th 2007. A local man got out of bed this morning to give his cat her insulin shot only to discover what should have been whiskers the cat to be a 10ft long Alligator lurking in his kitchen. Luckly the man and whiskers the cat where able to escape and live to tell the tale. Animal control officials where able to remove the gator. Tim Jackson, animal control officer, speculated the alligator which has been known to be able to turn door knobs must have tried the yet unnamed man’s front door and discovered it to be unlocked. “The Gator was probably just looking for a snack and considering the refridgerator door was hanging open and several bottles of Tab where crushed there on the floor I think he found it!” Said Jackson.
This Gator home invasion marks the 15th such activity in the last 3 weeks. Officials have stated that people shouldn’t be alarmed. Gators which are normally only found in warm areas have been moving north because of global warming. It is recommended people lock their doors at night and make sure and keep any small children and pets inside.

The First Post of Pure Thought

I’m a typically introspective person and rarely do I allow my crazy thoughts to escape their cage and visit the work around them. However, from time to time I have ideas that seem no matter what I do I can’t contain them. Ooops this is not one of those times.

A Must Have mac app.

So I came across this app, and it something I’ve been looking for now for some time. I’ve started using iCal and trying to keep on top of my life. However, I’m not always sitting in front of my deck so now I can update my calendar any time on google and when I get home my stuff will be Synced. Awesome

going to California

if you know me I lived in California for about 9 months during the whole dot com debacle. I was fresh out of college and a hot shot, and I believed that I could go out there find a dot com get some stock options and then strike it rich. Well unfortunately I was about 1 year too late, and so I hung out worked with some idiots and as a result it didn’t work out quite like I had hoped. I spent me time that at eToys.com it was an interesting work experience we had big screen TVs, pool tables and every new video game of the day. My job there was to help develop a technology that was identical to what SOAP is today. Unfortunately due to the fact that if you had a pulse and saw a computer you could get a job in Sunny Southern California. I discovered this very quickly and upon doing so I realized the writing was on the wall and I had to get the hell out. Well my time there came and went. I often times think back to what I did and wonder what would have happened had I stay on the coast. I suppose that wondering and knowing what happen are 2 very different things, Since I don’t know I don’t dwell on it very often. I am going to be heading back out west in the next 2 weeks and I’m really excited. Although I’ll only be there for a day I’m excited to see it one more time.

First Post 0f 2007

Well, it’s been a couple of weeks in coming but here it is. The year has started off quite right for old iVinnyt. I got some exciting news that I’m going to keep bottled up until it develops a little more, but if things come together as planned it’ll be a phenominal 2007. In addition a good friend of mine has decided to move back to Kansas City after a brief stint in a small town in california. I’ve signed up to start playing hockey again and will be hitting the ice start feb 14th. I’m very excited for this because it’ll be one of the first times I’ve played hockey since I got Lasik done on my eyes and frankly from the last time I played it has made a huge difference. Mainly just becuase I can see everything that is going on now and I’m not limited to the crappy vision that I was afforded when I was wearing contacts. That being said my eyes have become somewhat sensitive to light, and I’m particularly concerned about protecting my eyes so I’m going to start wearing a face shield. I decided to go with an oakley straight cut amber tinted visor as a means of cutting down the glare and to protect myself from stairing at a bright white surface for a good hour. I’ll keep you posted as things develop…..

Sitting in Tejas

So I’m in San Antonio. I’ve spent a fair time in texas and all my time here has pretty much been crap. I’m glad to finally see a different city in this state. You know my opinion is starting to change. I think I could come here and really have a good time.

As new year approaches

I’ve always enjoyed the end of the year, mainly because I love christmas, and because only a short time later it’s my birthday. Now yes these are selfish reasons to anticipate the coming of the new year, but hey it’s my life and I can like certain time periods for whatever reason I want. That being said I’m going to lay out my nears resolutions for 2007 and believe me I’m going to stick to these like glue.

1. Getting into a consistent exercise habit
2. Read at least 1 book every 3 weeks.
3. Spend as much time as possible with family and friends.
4. Show kindness to others

That’s what I’m going to do what do you have?
