If you have haven’t been paying attention I recently got laser vision correction. The surgery I recieved is called PRK. It is the predacessor to lasik, and frankly is a little more brutal than lasik, but due to how my eyes is built I had to get it or keep wearing glasses. Any way due to the delicate nature of the surgery it is imperative that you are completely relaxed during the procedure. This is so that while you have a laser melting away flesh you don’t jump around. So unless you have nerves of steel, the doctors chemically induce a state of relaxation. I was given 10mg of Valium, and in about 15 minutes I was out of it. As you can see I was at this point prepared for surgery and nearly falling asleep.

About the middle of the summer, maybe earlier. I purchased this motorcycles as a gift for my father. It is a Yamaha V star Silverado 2005 model. I think he nearly collapsed when I gave it to him, but he really seems to enjoy it, and uses it for work nearly every day the weather permits. The bike is really nice I’ve driven it a couple of times myself, and I have to say at first I was not a big fan of the v-twin motors, but after driving this bike and getting a feeling for it I have to say it has changed my opinion completely.

So today was my first day back to work after my eye surgery. So far things are going quite well. I was able to drive to work and I have to say the mere fact that I got up from bed, didn’t have to go through finding my glasses, and then putting in my contacts made the entire process entirely worth it. My eyes have not completely healed at this point, but according to my doctor this can be expected due to the ways eyes heal after PRK. I’ll keep you posted over the next few days as things progress. but so far so good.

I have made a near full recovery from
PRK ( photorefractive keratectomy ) surgery. I went to the facility on Friday morning, and by noon the procedure was complete. Initially I could see perfectly probably better than I ever had in my entire life. After about 30 minutes of clear vision this feeling of happiness was quickly replaced with a searing pain the likes of which I have never experienced. I quickly rushed back out to the clinic to double check that everything was fine, and according to the doctor everything was in order, and due to the fact that PRK is a very invasive surgery this level of pain was not all that uncommon. I was given a prescription for Tylenol 3. This is where the majority of my weekend goes blurry ( no pun intended ) I remember briefly waking up for my mom to put the regiment of drops in my eyes to ensure proper healing, and then sleeping. I have to say that I don’t honestly think a person could recover from this surgery on their own. Being rendered nearly blind, and needing to follow strict procedure when applying the eye drops it would be nearly impossible. Luckily my parents live near by and they volunteered to help me in my recovery. By Sunday the pain had nearly subsided, and was replaced with mere irritation, which I believe was caused by the contact lens that was placed in my eye after surgery. I was able to reduce this irritation by applying artificial tears which really helped. However, during this time I could not open my eyes for periods of more than a couple of minutes at a time, and luckily my brother is very good at typing and so he was able to help me with email and my day to day work. Finally, today rolled around for the majority of the day I was still dealing with the minor discomfort which required me to almost constantly be applying artificial tears to my eyes. At 4:00 I went back to the clinic at which time I was given the thumbs up, and the contacts where removed. I am now able to see, not as well as I could after the initial surgery but hundreds of times better than I could when I was in glasses. I believe that over the next week my vision will continue to improve and if I am able to stick to the recovery procedure I should come out of this with near 20/20 or better vision.

So today I’ve made what I believe will be a life altering decision. I’m going to go through with PRK. This surgery is the predecessor to the current Lasik procedure that has become quite popular as of late. The difference between the 2 surgeries lies mainly in the preparation of the eye for surgery, and the recovery period after the surgery. Due to my large pupils and the thickness of my cornea I’m not a good candidate for Lasik, as a result I’m getting the PRK. This will be taking place in one week and will probably knock me out for 3 days. I’m quite interested to observe the results of this procedure. I think being able to really see again for the first time will change my life for the good forever. I’ll keep you posted as things develop.

I was playing with my dog and the camera, and some how she moved fast enough to blur what she looked like.
